Richtersveld Transfrontier Wildrun® 2016 Day 3

Day 3 of the Richtersveld Transfrontier Wildrun®

Up before dawn for an early start of Bacon and eggs and SMOOTHIES! A long day ahead and so the first batch was off at first light at 7am.

The last batch started at 8:30 and suddenly camp was quite. The runners headed towards Tatasberg but first had to head up two kloofs to the Springbok vlakte.

Running along the Springbok vlakte into a head on wind but a dazzling view of the Tatasberg ahead. The clouds were filtering the light ahead. Then up, up, up onto Tatasberg. Big boulders, lots of scrambling and an immense amount of fun. It was challenging but not too tough.

Being at the highest point was like being on the moon, it felt like they were in another universe. While some runners were pumping to get to the finish and had little time for scenery other runners were just so chuffed to get to the top and used the scenery as a perfect excuse for a concise break.

Down Tatasberg and into Pypkloof. A long, winding kloof all the way to the orange river where it opens up into a glorious vista.

The last bit was reportedly a bit of a slog but quite enjoyable and a completely new set of flora around you.

Of the three days this was the technically ‘most easy’ running and was arguably the best day of running yet.

Looking forward to day 4!
