Richtersveld Transfrontier Wildrun® 2016 Day 5

Day 5 of the Richtersveld Transfrontier Wildrun® 2016

It may have been the shortest day at 27km's but it was still a tough run through the Namibian desert.

Starting out in the Fish River Canyon, following the curves and crossing the river each time to get to the zebra trails on the opposite sides. The terrain was sandy and usual with lots of small round 'klippies' or rocks. Difficult to run on and to set a good pace in.

Cutting up and away from the river along a wash and a well run zebra escape route cutting out a nasty section of the Fish. This was a welcomed change in terrain and scenery even if it was uphill.

Up and down through a saddle and back over the Fish and then the last section was up behind a ridge line which brings you to the top of the world. It was magical, you can see up along the Canyon, back to where you've just come from and an aerial view of the Ai Ais Hot Springs and the finish line.

Down into the finish is a rocky, technical decent but all the runners made it from their last RCP down and were welcomed to the finish line with warm applause and enthusiasm.

Across the finish line first we had Tobias, Jo and Dawid all running in together.

Everyone hit the hot springs or baths and we had a wonderful prizegiving. Thank you to Magda and her team for a delicious meal, thank you to the bar staff for keeping us fully stocked and hydrated and thank you to all the crew for their hardwork this week.

For the first time ever in the history of Richtersveld Wildrun's® we had a female as the overall winner. Congratulations to Jo Wiilliams on an excellent week of running!

Until next year, so long, farewell, travel safely home and we hope to see you at Mapungubwe Transfrontier Wildrun® and Wildcoast Wildrun® .
